About Us
Leaders Invested in Fostering Trust, LIFT
We are an engaged research effort focused on finding solutions to the challenges of news disengagement that contribute to the crises of disinformation and misinformation in our society.

We foster a more comprehensive journalism industry and news information ecosystem, particularly for communities that have been underserved by traditional journalism.

We began in 2022 in Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota, and have expanded to Michigan and Indiana.

We achieve our mission by prioritizing research and engagement efforts that center on identifying networks of trusted messengers in Midwestern communities to:
-
Understand their effects on civic and democratic life
-
Create, network, and allocate resources needed to better inform communities
-
Build new opportunities for sustainable reparative narrative change

We launched data collection efforts in Indiana, while continuing to seek partners and collaborators to expand the work. We're interested in working with and supporting researchers, students, journalists, faith leaders, and activists in the Midwest and around the United States to create a comprehensive and community-directed effort.
Meet our team and share what we do.

We plan and execute visual media workshops to bring the LIFT Projects best stories and most meaningful research findings to life and to the public. Youth and young adults from underrepresented populations participate in micro-apprenticeships to learn the trade, build their skills and resumes, and tell their community's stories.
By combining the research expertise of the Diversity Pledge Institute's team and the LIFT Project's team, we work together to provide comprehensive assessment of the sustainability and profitability of DEI efforts in non-profit news organizations.
In Black Ink served as a critical community partner for helping us connect with relevant community organizations and survey Minneapolis and St Paul residents. Their numerous community meetings and events were vital to outreach efforts.
