Arrests of Independent Press Will Harm Minnesotan Communities

Many of the people who have been arrested (both protesters and press) in Minnesota were deeply trusted messengers of news and information for Black communities in the area. We know because when our team was there from 2020-2023, we asked.
Standing up for them now is critical for defending the First Amendment for protesters, for the press, and for our collective futures. But it's also critical to the Minnesotan communities that need it most. Delegitimizing and devaluing their trusted leaders and news providers will have irreversible consequences on their communities.
