Updated: Sep 18

We were honored to host Elaine Cromie, Detroit-based photo editor and photojournalist who directs visual journalism for Chalkbeat and Votebeat non-profit news orgs. Previously, Cromie worked as an independent visual journalist contributing to publications including The New York Times, TIME, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Rolling Stone Magazine, Politico, Detroit Free Press and others. Born and raised in Colorado to a mixed Uchinaanchu and Puerto Rican family, Elaine is a graduate from University of Colorado Boulder with a degree journalism.

Elaine worked with students on environmental portraits on campus, focusing on early voters and those who have helped make early voting possible. Here are a few of the images they produced.
