Celebrating Environmental Community Journalism and the Inaugural New Wave Award

The LIFT Project team is committed to uplifting the community-engaged journalism and community voices, driving narrative change, and enriching healthy information systems. We are thrilled to invite you to join us virtually for an incredible evening of reflection, recognition, and robust discussion!


On May 26, we are broadcasting live from the historic Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit for the presentation of the New Wave Award for Excellence in Environmental Journalism. This recognition highlights thte work of an early career journalist who enriches and elevates their local community through extensive investigative reporting that betters communities.


The New Wave Award's inaugural recipient is Jenae Barnes. During the event, Barnes will be presented with her award, and following, will share reflections and insights on the magic well contamination reporting for Capital B Gary.


The event also serves as the welcoming event of the IJNR Community Reporting Project Speaker Event -- of which Jenae Barnes is a cohort member.


Following the award presentation, we’ll dive right into a powerful lineup of speakers:
